When you think about First Aid training, what do you imagine? Most people will say a classroom style set up, a stuffy room, a whole lot of PowerPoint slides and a whole lot of talking. Doesn’t sound especially exciting but first aid training should be.

After all, we’re talking about skills that could potentially save lives! We think that deserves more than a few anecdotes and diagrams.

Who are the real first aid trainers?

Our qualified instructors are world-class legends. They’re paramedics, firemen, critical care nurses and former military. These are people who know how to think on their feet and will teach you to do the same. Our trainers want you to be involved, ask questions and have a go. Great effort and planning is taken to ensure an inclusive, safe and non-intimidating learning environment. We don’t want you to memorise a stack of information on ‘how to apply first aid’, we want you to experience it for yourself.

How to choose a course?

Think of first aid training as a toolbox for life. The more training you complete, the more tools you will have in your toolbox. The more tools in your toolbox, the more you have to draw upon should you ever be faced with a real-life emergency. A great way to get your toolbox started is to think about why you want to complete first aid training. This will help determine what skills you may like to acquire first. There are many reasons why people complete first aid training. It could be to create a safer workplace at home or school or just to have the ability to help others. Your reasons can, and most likely will, change over time – and that’s OK! You can always add to your toolbox.

The Three Levels Of First Aid Training Courses

The most basic accredited first aid training course of all the levels is Provide CPR HLTAID001. It provides participants with the competence to deal with an unresponsive, unconscious person and to provide basic emergency life support until further help arrives.

The industry standard in first aid training is Provide First Aid HLTAID003. It is still commonly refereed to by its previous names, Level 2 First Aid and Senior First Aid. The training covers the basics of first aid. It not only provides a thorough overview of basic life support by incorporating the course Provide CPR HLTAID001, but it also provides skills and knowledge to deal with a whole range of potential issues. Such as: burns, fractures, anaphylaxis, asthma, bleeding, choking and much more. Provide First Aid (HLTAID003) is the course which is listed in the Work Safe Code of Practice as the standard for most workplaces.

Higher risk workplaces and organisations need to complete more advanced courses such as Provide Advanced First Aid HLTAID006. In addition to incorporating all the aforementioned courses and classes, this 3 day first aid training course also covers emergency childbirth, spinal immobilization with backboards, providing CPR with a bag-valve-mask, drug overdoses and a few other specialised topics. Real First Aid also runs nine tailored simulations throughout the course. There is also an option to incorporate HLTAID007 Provide Advanced Resuscitation into these three days which covers oxygen, advanced airways and oxygen saturation measurements.
