Defibtech Lifeline Child Pads

$199.00

When treating a child suffering from a cardiac arrest you will require the appropriate defibrillator pads. Whilst such incidents are uncommon, the devastating effects of such a medical emergency on young bodies means that equipment has designed specifically to assist in intervention. Paediatric pads will decrease the joule output from the defibrillator so that the pulse provided is suitable for the smaller heart of a child. The pads can be preconnected to the defibrillator so they are always ready to use, and have a shelf-life of 2 years if unused. Stored in foil packaging for safety and protection, the pads have super sticky adhesive on the back so they can be securely placed on the child’s body, and clear instructions illustrating where to place the pads on the chest and back.

Description

Children need to be treated slightly differently in the case of a sudden cardiac arrest emergency. Paediatric pads are designed to reduce the amount of energy sent from the defibrillator to the body through the pads, so as not to damage the smaller heart of a child. The pads also need to be placed on the front and back of the child, differing from the double chest placement for adults. These instructions are on the back of the pads, so that anyone can adhere them appropriately to the victim. When designing the Defibtech Lifeline child pads, Defibtech were aiming to increase the speed of defibrillator intervention. You can either pre-connect the pads or quickly plugged into the machine. They will be automatically tested by the defibrillator during its scheduled internal tests. The pads are contained in foil packaging that can be quickly removed, and have plastic covers to keep the adhesive sticky until the pads needs to be attached to the body. This can be removed with the provided corner tabs.

There are very few incidents of sudden cardiac arrest in children, compared to in adults, however it is a very real danger in certain situations involving kids. The
causes of sudden cardiac arrest in children are:

- Underlying heart conditions
- High intensity sport
- Drowning
- Asphyxiation

Unfortunately we have a large rate of drowning deaths in Australia, particularly with young children. Likewise, there has been a push for more awareness of the dangers in the home for young children with a series of accidental choking and strangling deaths. In these situations, when a child goes into cardiac arrest, a defibrillator could be the difference between life and death. Defibrillators apply an electrical pulse to the body that helps jolt the heart back into a regular rhythm. This irregular rhythm is caused by the misfiring of the electrical system of the heart. These irregular rhythms are called arrhythmias. Without a pumping heart, oxygen in the blood cannot reach the vital organs.

The issue with successful intervention in sudden cardiac arrest in children is that people are even more hesitant to perform CPR or apply defibrillation. Time is essential in the treatment of a sudden cardiac arrest. Within 4-6 minutes the brain will have received irreversible damage, with death not long after. So bystanders need to act fast to have a positive impact on the chance of survival for a victim. Defibrillators are easy to use and cannot hurt a victim. The purpose of the Defibtech Lifeline child pads in fact, is to make sure that the heart is not damaged by the electrical pulses. With your Defibtech equipment you can be confident that you can provide life-saving assistance in an emergency.
